If you are building a shortlist of sales training providers, you are almost certainly comparing organisations that describe themselves in near-identical language. This page is written to make that comparison easier — including the questions that separate genuinely useful providers from well-marketed ones.
In detail
What Separates Sales Training Providers
Nearly every provider claims to be practical, bespoke and results-driven. In practice the differences fall into five areas: who actually delivers the training, how much of the content is customised versus licensed, whether the programme includes manager reinforcement, how outcomes are measured, and what happens in the ninety days after delivery. A provider that is strong in all five will cost more per day and deliver several times the return of one that is strong only in the first.
A Scoring Matrix for Your Shortlist
Score every provider out of five on each of the following, and weight them to your situation. Delivery credentials: has the facilitator personally carried a quota in a comparable market? Customisation: will they use your deals, your buyers and your CRM stages, or a generic case study? Manager enablement: are your frontline managers trained to reinforce the content? Measurement: what is baselined before delivery and reported afterwards? Reinforcement: what happens between weeks two and twelve? Commercials: fixed fee or per-head, and what is included in follow-up? Reference quality: can you speak to a client with a comparable team size and sales motion?
Questions Worth Asking Every Provider
Who will be in the room on the day, and what have they personally sold? What proportion of the material will be written specifically for us? How do you handle a rep who resists the new approach? What does your reinforcement look like in month three? What metric would you be comfortable being judged on? Which engagements have not worked, and why? The last question is the most revealing — a provider with no failures either has no track record or is not being straight with you.
Red Flags
Per-head pricing with no design work included usually means an off-the-shelf curriculum. A refusal to name the facilitator until after contracting means you are buying a brand and getting a subcontractor. Guaranteed percentage uplifts with no baseline are not commitments, they are marketing. Certification-heavy offers that end at the certificate leave behaviour unchanged. And any provider who does not ask to see your pipeline or listen to calls before quoting is selling you a fixed product.
Where We Fit
We are a London-based provider delivering operator-led programmes: everyone who trains has carried and hit a quota. Programmes are designed around your live deals, quoted as a fixed fee, and always include a manager track plus a reinforcement period. We are equally comfortable running a single team workshop or a multi-cohort enterprise sales training rollout. We are not the cheapest option on most shortlists, and we will tell you when a smaller intervention would serve you better.
Running a Formal Selection Process
If your organisation requires a tender or formal specification, our sales training RFP template gives you a ready-made requirements document and vendor-scoring matrix you can issue to any provider, including us. Teams that want a baseline before writing the specification often start with the sales skills assessment, which produces a gap analysis you can turn straight into requirements.
Next Step
If we belong on your shortlist, book a call and we will scope the programme and send a fixed-fee proposal in the format your evaluation needs. Book a Strategy Call .
How to Compare Sales Training Providers
Most shortlists are built from search results and a recommendation, then decided on a proposal document. That process rewards whoever writes the best proposal, which is not the same as whoever will change your team's behaviour. A better comparison uses a small number of questions that are hard to answer well unless the provider genuinely does the work.
The Questions Worth Asking Every Provider
Who will actually stand in the room, and what have they personally sold? A proposal signed by a senior figure and delivered by a junior trainer is the most common disappointment in this market. Ask for the named deliverer and their own selling record.
What happens before the workshop? A provider who will train without listening to your calls or reviewing your pipeline is delivering a stock curriculum with your logo on the cover.
Will reps practise on our live deals? If practice runs on invented case studies, the transfer to real selling is weak.
What happens to managers? A programme with no manager track will fade within a quarter, because behaviour reverts to whatever the manager inspects.
How is success measured, and who agrees the measures? Ask for measures tied to pipeline and conversion, agreed before the work starts, not satisfaction scores collected on the day.
What do we own afterwards? Playbooks, call frameworks, scorecards and recordings should be yours to reuse and to train new hires with.
Red Flags
A fixed curriculum that never changes regardless of the client. Guaranteed percentage uplifts, which nobody can honestly promise without controlling your product, pricing and market. Certification of a proprietary methodology treated as an outcome in itself. Trainers who have never carried a quota. Pricing quoted per head with no diagnostic. And case studies with impressive numbers and no named client or verifiable context.
Types of Provider and When Each Fits
Large methodology houses suit organisations that need a globally consistent framework across thousands of sellers and have internal enablement to maintain it. Independent trainers suit small teams with a single, well-defined skill gap. E-learning platforms suit knowledge transfer and compliance, not behaviour change. Operator-led boutiques — our category — suit teams who need live-deal coaching, manager enablement and material built from their own calls.
Being honest about this matters more than winning every enquiry: if you need one global framework rolled out to two thousand sellers in fourteen languages, a large methodology house is a better fit than we are.
Building a Scoring Matrix
Score providers against weighted criteria rather than overall impression: relevance of the deliverer's own selling experience, quality of the diagnostic, use of live deals, manager enablement, measurement framework, materials ownership, commercial terms and references you can actually speak to. Our free sales training RFP template includes a matrix you can use with any supplier, including our competitors.
What Sales Training Costs in the UK
Pricing varies widely by format and depth: a single-day workshop, a multi-week behaviour-change programme and a multi-cohort enterprise rollout are different orders of magnitude. Beware of comparing a day rate with a programme fee — see our sales training cost guide for how the formats compare and what drives the difference.

FAQs
Frequently asked questions
Three is usually right. Two rarely gives enough contrast; more than four turns the evaluation into administration and delays the programme by a quarter.
